I do not move...

My Passion

The title of my blog is a tribute to my passion. From the virtual battlefields of Call of Duty, to air soft skirmishes in the dead of night, to firing real sniper rifles at targets, I am fascinated with the arts of subterfuge, camouflage, incredible accuracy with a rifle, and of course the sniper's motto, "one shot, one kill." The title of my blog is a quote from the movie, based on a true story, Enemy at the Gates, the ultimate tale of two World War Two snipers, one Soviet, the other Fascist, engaged in an epic battle over the remains of war torn 1942 Stalingrad.

Ugh. Frustration.

-sigh- my ghillie suit has stalled and lost all momentum. pretty much, i have lost most of my interest in the project, i still have an interest in finishing it eventually, but i have more important concerns now.

Shooting Range

My latest trip to the shooting range was a blunder. The AK47 magazine wouldn't work. We couldn't find non steel ammo for the Mosin-Nagant. We had to leave early so we didn't shoot the shotgun, however, it was not a complete failure. Dana had the opportunity to fire the bolt action .308, you were a bad ass sniper, Dana, and the WWII Soviet revolver. I hope you guys had fun, and I apologize for how it ended. We will go shooting again, hopefully with better results.

Stalled Ghillie Suit

The project is going slower than expected because Rebekah and have started dating. I haven't even played x-box since we started. Anyways the ghillie suit will be delayed.

New Poll!

I have a new poll at the bottom of the blog! check it out! I voted for the Arctic Warfare Super Magnum, or AWSM, which sounds like awesome. Because it is.

If you pick the last option, leave me a comment telling me your answer.

Alex, the Gateway Drug

Rebekah, sometimes you scare me. Yesterday you told me that I was your gateway drug to guns, war movies, violence, and first-person-shooter video games. Today you call me and discuss sniper positions and tactics at Kings-Dominion. Should I be worried? Probably not. I love how when we first started seriously hanging out, you were anti-gun and I offered to let you hold the AK-47. You were almost too scared to, but your sense of adventure overtook the way you were raised, and later that night, when we went to Wal-Mart, you absorbed, and retained more knowledge than you probably ever had and will again. Since then you have played airsoft, watched some excellent war movies (better than Disney?), killed a virtual Nazi, fired real guns, and best of all, bought a pellet pistol of your own (how did it feel?). I am glad that I helped convert you to the gunner side of life, but even more glad to have someone to discuss topics like urban sniper tactics without being suggested to a psychiatrist.

Making a Ghillie Suit

Rebekah and I have come to the conclusion that we are going to make a ghillie suit. We have researched the price and materials. It will cost about 30$ and will take about a week to put together. I am very excited about the final product. If you don't know what a ghillie suit is, it is the ultimate camouflage, if used correctly the user can remain completely invisible, especially from a distance. I can only hope that mine will be as good as the one in this picture.

Red Orchestra

I got a game about two years ago and i finally got to play it last night. The sniping system is awesome and it is an intense game. It was worth the wait. I particularly enjoyed sniping with the Mosin-Nagant sniper rifle.

Cool Website

The other day I found this sweet website. Rebekah, it has lots of helpful info, and it is also where I learned more about the WA2000. The site is called sniper central and there is a link at the bottom of my blog under the movie sniper moments. It has information that is accurate and loads of cool pictures, there is even a store that sells sniper equipment (ghillie suits?).

It looks like my kind of site.

This is My Rifle

The Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 was the Imperialist Russian army's and Soviet army's main rifle during the Russo-Japanese War and both World Wars the rifle was equipped with a scope and used as a sniper rifle during World War Two. The Mosin-Nagant is known for it's accuracy and reliability. I own a non sniper version made in 1938 and am working on making it a sniper rifle.

In order to finish this project I only need a modified bolt handle and a reproduction scope, like what is highlighted in the illustration. The total cost for the project is just under three hundred dollars including the rifle. When it is finished it will look exactly like the photo above.

My Top 5 Favorite Movie Sniper Moments

  • 1. Movie: Saving Private Ryan, The Shot: When the christian sniper puts a 30-06 round through the scope and in the eye of the German sniper
  • 2. Movie: Enemy at the Gates, The Shot: When the German sniper shoots the Russian accompanying Vassili in mid-air as he leaps a gap to relocate.
  • 3. Movie: We Were Soldiers, The Shot: The sniper is not seen, but in the opening scene the contents of a French Officer's skull are splattered on the face of the Private next to him.
  • 4. Movie: Enemy at the Gates, The Shot: Vassili, armed with a stripper clip of 7.62x54r, defeats five Nazis by timing his shots to coincide with explosions in the background.
  • 5. Movie: Jarhead, The Shot: This one isn't even in the movie. In special features there is an alternate scenes section in which the main character makes an incredibly long shot with an M40A3 that he was not allowed to take in the movie, ending in a great "pink mist".
